Tour operator Audley Travel is expanding its portfolio in Japan with the addition of two destinations, Tohoku and Kyoto.
Located in the rural reaches of the northern region of the mainland, Tohoku is where cherry blossoms bloom into late April, giving travelers a longer window to experience these floral scenes.
Must-see destinations in Tohoku include Sendai, the region’s largest city and site of the Osaki Hachimangu Shinto shrine; Matsushima, the city’s island-dotted bay and considered one of Japan’s most scenic places; and Kakunodate, a town known for its samurai history.
Guests who include Tohoku in their custom Japan trips with Audley will stay in a restored former samurai residence.
In Kyoto, Audley will take guests to the coastal village of Ine, which features 230 funaya boathouses built along the bay.
Guests can opt to stay in a traditional ryokan while visiting Ine. Tours will include visits to Amanohashidate, which offers scenic views of Japan, along with visits to Kasamatsu Park, Motoise Kono Shrine and other sites.
