Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands is slated to reopen this year after a six-year renovation and rebuild.

The resort, shuttered due to Hurricane Irma in 2017, will offer new and upgraded accommodations and facilities. The rebuilt Beach Front Junior Suites, new beachfront two-bedroom villas and one-bedroom rooms/suites will be beachfront on Deadman's Beach. An infinity pool overlooking Deadman's Beach is also new. Luxury villa Falcons Nest is being rebuilt and redesigned on a mountain peak showcasing 360-degree views of the British Virgin Islands. Hawks Nest Villa, nestled on the hillside overlooking Sprat Bay, is also being upgraded and redecorated.

The resort, which comprises 52 rooms, suites and villas, is expanding its meetings and events facilities to accommodate groups of up to 180 people with a new 3,000-square-foot oceanfront conference center. These new facilities will include a dedicated, on-site kitchen, flexible indoor spaces and scenic outdoor areas for events, receptions and meetings.

The Peter Island Spa has gotten an upgrade. It will include seven treatment rooms, including two couples' treatment rooms; welcome and relaxation lounges; a fitness center; a spa boutique; and a beauty salon. The spa grounds also boast a saltwater pool, al fresco relaxation areas and an outdoor hot tub facing Big Reef Bay.

There will be two new restaurants: the beachfront Drake Steakhouse, which will offer surf-and-turf dishes with a Caribbean twist, and the Drunken Pelican, serving more casual fare, crafted cocktails and a selection of beer, wine and spirits at the resort's Yacht Club.

The Yacht Club will accommodate larger super yachts up to 200 feet and will include basketball, pickleball and bocce ball courts as well as the restaurant and the Sea Chest Boutique shop.

The resort is currently taking reservations for stays from Oct. 3, although earlier stays may be available once it determines an official opening date. Rates at Peter Island Resort start at $1,000 per night.
