Dominican Republic

You can be all you want in a place that has it all.

We Truly Have It All

Discover the wonders of the most visited Caribbean destination.

A democratic nation with a population of over 10 million people, the Dominican Republic has a territory stretching 18,704 square miles. That’s just over twice the size of New Jersey, or nearly the size of Costa Rica.

The Dominican Republic is a place that has it all. Whether it's flowing rivers ready to welcome a river rafting group or breathtaking sunsets at the Samaná Peninsula, there is an array of activities and attractions to satisfy every traveler.

Discover a key piece of Puerto Plata’s history in the Fortaleza San Felipe; visit Saona Island’s picture-perfect beaches where the flow of visitors amounts to more than all of the country’s national parks combined.

Travel to the 1,500-acre nature reserve and ecological park to enjoy its enchanting, shaded hiking trails that wind through a lush tropical forest that leads to a series of 12 freshwater lagoons.

Master of the Waves

A top Caribbean destination for wind sports, the DR is ground zero for surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. Whether a novice or expert, there’s a Dominican coastline ideal for your preferred activity. Cabarete usually has between 250 and 300 kiteboarding-friendly windy days per year. The waves are created by a reef break, forming fast and powerful waves perfect for experienced surfers. However, there are also some gentle waves suitable for beginners. That's why Cabarete has earned the name “Surf and Wind City” and has long been known as the “Water Sports Capital of the Caribbean”.

An Enchanting Place to Discover

Full of color and good vibes, the Dominican Republic is one of a kind.

Quisqueya — as Dominicans affectionately call their home — means "mother of all lands". It is a country of superlatives. This was the first permanent Spanish settlement in the Americas, or the New World, with the arrival of Christopher Columbus on his first voyage in 1492. Aside from choosing the DR as his sole residence in the region — a land blessed with fertile soil and gold deposits — Columbus and the Spanish Crown used the country as a launching pad for conquests across the Caribbean and United States. Today, the first city of the Americas, Santo Domingo, is the capital of the DR, and continues to thrive while preserving its history and original Spanish architecture. Whether you choose to visit our shores along nearly 1,000 miles of coastline, our verdant mountain towns, our fishing villages, or our cactus-lined terrain, you'll uncover a unique side of the DR.

Along the way, you will experience a unified passion for our music and dance —meringue, bachata and son; our diverse gastronomy taking you beyond rice and beans; and our love for baseball, family and hospitality. Together, they make up the essence of our Dominican spirit.
