Cancellations at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport remain high Tuesday following the passing of Hurricane Beryl on Monday.
However, a return toward normalized schedules is underway.
As of shortly after 10 a.m. local time, airlines had canceled 161 flights at the airport, amounting to 24% of the daily schedule, according to FlightAware. Only 5% of airport flights were delayed.
At Houston Hobby, where Southwest has the primary operation, only six Tuesday flights had been canceled, amounting for just 2% of the schedule.
Beryl caused widespread flight disruptions in Houston on Monday after it made an early morning landfall approximately 100 miles southwest of Houston. For the day, 90% of scheduled Bush flights were canceled and 77% of scheduled Hobby flights were canceled.
Operations resumed on a limited scale Monday evening, Houston Airports said.
Airlines have issued flight waivers for Houston travelers. United, which as a hub at Bush, will allow rebookings without a fare difference for travel initiated by July 16 at impacted Texas airports. Southwest is waiving any fare difference for travel initiated within 14 days of travel that had been slated for July 6-9, also at impacted Texas airports.
