Protea Hotels by Marriott expanding its footprint in Africa

Protea Hotels by Marriott is marking its 40th anniversary with the opening of two properties on the continent: its first hotel in Angola, located in the capital city of Luanda, and one in Pretoria, South Africa.

The openings expand the brand's footprint to over 60 properties across nine African countries.

Protea by Marriott Luanda features 84 guestrooms and suites, a restaurant serving a fusion of Portuguese and Angolan cuisines, a rooftop bar with panoramic city views, a fully equipped gym and an outdoor pool with a waterfall. The hotel's interior design incorporates contemporary furniture in African-style terracotta colors and furnishings made with locally sourced materials as well as paintings by renowned Angolan artist Guilherme Mampuya.

Protea by Marriott Pretoria Hatfield, offers 203 contemporary guestrooms; the African Restaurant and Bar, which serves a fusion of global and African cuisines; a 30-seat bar; and five state-of-the-art conference venues suitable for both large and small gatherings.

Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, vice president of Premium & Select Brands at Marriott International, said the new hotels combine contemporary comfort with local culture and heritage.
